Kiev – Ukrainian officials have said that there is no immediate sign of progress on the geographical issue, which is considered a key issue, during talks between Moscow and Kiev in Abu Dhabi. During the talks, both sides agreed to exchange more than 300 prisoners.
“We want results quickly, it is certainly not easy, but Ukraine has been and will remain as constructive as possible,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a press conference in Kyiv about the talks.
US mediator Steve Witkoff said “significant” work remains to be done, dimming hopes of success in the search for a comprehensive agreement to end the war.
The Abu Dhabi talks are the latest diplomatic effort to resolve the conflict in a bid to end Europe’s deadliest war since World War II, which has killed thousands, displaced millions and devastated much of eastern and southern Ukraine.
Even as the talks are underway, large parts of the Ukrainian capital remain without power after Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy production and supply infrastructure. Residents have been left without power for days and nights in sub-zero temperatures. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has warned that more than 1,000 apartment blocks could face power outages for up to two months after a key power station was destroyed in a Russian attack earlier this week.
