Durga Prasai, coordinator of the Rastra, Rastriyata, Dharma, Sanskriti, Nagarik Bachau Mahabhiyan, has been released from custody after a Supreme Court ruling.

On Tuesday, a bench of Justices Manoj Kumar Sharma and Meghraj Pokharel issued an order for Prasai’s direct production and release, declaring his detention illegal.

The court directed authorities to immediately free him.

Prasai’s wife, Uma Prasai, had filed a writ petition last week, claiming that he was being held unlawfully at the District Police Headquarters.

Earlier, the Election Commission had alleged that Prasai was involved in activities aimed at disrupting the election and had requested police action.

Based on this, the police arrested him on Feb 16 from Kathmandu.

Although the Supreme Court ordered his release on Tuesday, procedural formalities delayed his release until today.
