Russia claims to have shot down eight advanced US-supplied missiles.

MOSCOW. Russia has claimed to have shot down a US-supplied advanced ATACMS missile. Russia has warned that Ukraine could be hit by a hypersonic ballistic missile attack on central Kiev due to the ATACMS missile it has used.

Outgoing US President Joe Biden last year authorised Ukraine to use the weapon against Russia with a range of 300 kilometres (190 miles).

The Russian Defence Ministry said that “Russian air defence systems have shot down eight US-made ATACMS missiles and 72 drones.”

The ministry said the Ukrainian village of Nadiya, one of several settlements in the eastern Luhansk region, had also been taken over.

Moscow has seized some 4,000 square kilometres (1,540 square miles) of territory in Ukraine by 2024, according to reliable figures obtained by AFP.

Both sides have accused each other of carrying out deadly attacks on civilians since early 2019.

A 74-year-old man was killed in a Russian airstrike on a village in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region on Saturday, regional governor Oleg Sinegubov said. Agency
