Kathmandu. South Africa has entered the finals of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. After defeating Afghanistan by 9 wickets in the first semi-final match, South Africa came close to winning the title. South Africa completed the target of 57 runs given by Afghanistan in 8.5 overs. After winning the toss, Afghanistan batted first and scored only 56 runs in 11.5 overs after losing all their wickets.
Afghanistan, which performed well from the group stage to the Super 8, did not bat in the semi-final. Ramnullah Gurwaz of Afghanistan was dismissed without opening his account. After that, Gulbuddin Naib got out after scoring 9 runs and Afghanistan lost 2 wickets for 16 runs. They lost opener Ibrahim Zardan as the third wicket. Afghanistan scored 20 runs when Zardan was dismissed after scoring 2 runs.
On the same score, Mohammad Nawi got out without opening the account. Afghanistan has lost the fifth wicket on the score of 23 runs. Nangelia Kharote of Afghanistan was dismissed after scoring 2 runs. At the end of the power play, Afghanistan scored 28 runs after losing 5 wickets. Azmatullah Omarzai scored the most 10 runs as the sixth wicket. Karim Janat contributed 8 runs while losing the seventh wicket at a score of 50 runs. Similarly, in 10.2 overs, the captain Rashid Khan also returned to the pavilion as the ninth wicket after scoring 8 runs. After 56 runs in 11.5 overs, Naveen-ul-Haq was dismissed for 2 runs and Afghanistan were bowled out. Fazalhaq Farooqui was not out for 2 runs.
Marco Jensen of South Africa took 3 wickets at the cost of 16 runs in 3 overs. Similarly, Tabrez Shamsi took 3 wickets by giving away 6 runs in 1.5 overs. Kagiso Rabada bowled 3 overs and took 2 wickets with 14 runs while bowling 1 over. Enrich Notze took 2 wickets with 7 runs in 3 overs.
Chasing a modest target of 57 runs, South Africa didn’t start well. Quinton de Kock, who has performed well in the ongoing World Cup, has failed. He was dismissed after scoring 5 runs. After that, Riza Henrique and captain Aiden Markram took over and South Africa won in 8.5 overs. Riza scored 29 runs not out in 25 balls while Markram scored 23 runs not out in 21 balls. Fazal Haque Farooqui took 1 wicket. South Africa will now compete against the winner of India and England in the final.
