A toran stolen more than two decades ago from the residence of the living goddess in Basantapur has been reinstalled. The ornamental wooden arch, taken from Kumari House in 2056, was recovered from the Barakat Gallery in the United Kingdom before being brought back to Nepal and kept at the National Museum in Chhauni.
The decision to reinstall the toran was made at a meeting chaired by Kathmandu Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol on Mangsir 1, with participation from the Heritage and Tourism Committee and representatives of the Kumari House area. Ahead of the installation, Deputy Mayor Dangol, committee coordinator Ashaman Sangat, Ward 23 chair and legislation committee coordinator Maharaja Maharjan, and Kumari House custodian Gautam Shakya visited the museum to receive the artifact. They signed the handover documents and returned with the toran, accompanied by heritage conservationists and local residents.
