Kathmandu: The Supreme Court has refused to release CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, issuing a show-cause order instead. A single bench of Justice Meghraj Pokharel on Monday declined the request for his immediate release and directed authorities to submit written reasons for his detention.

The habeas corpus petition was filed on Sunday by Oli’s wife, Radhika, alleging that he was being held in unlawful custody.

Earlier, the apex court had issued a similar show-cause order in a habeas corpus petition concerning former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

Oli had been recommended for investigation by a probe commission formed to examine the Gen-Z movement incident.
