The ‘reveal’ that Sheikh Hasina has not resigned, her son says – we will come to power again
Kathmandu. It has been ‘revealed’ that Sheikh Hasina has not resigned from the post of Prime Minister of Bangladesh. According to her son Sajib Wazed, Hasina had planned to resign after the protest turned violent. However, he claims that he was not able to resign after the protesters surrounded his residence.
“My mother has not formally resigned. She has not had time to resign. She is still the Prime Minister of Bangladesh,” Wazed told Reuters on Saturday from Washington.
According to Wazed, Hasina had planned to give a statement and resign. However, he did not get time when the protestors started rallying at the Prime Minister’s residence.
“My mother didn’t even get time to pack her things. According to the constitution, she is still the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.”
He claims that the dissolution of the parliament by the president in consultation with the army chief and the opposition parties and the formation of a caretaker government by the prime minister without formally resigning can be challenged in the court.
Wazed also said that the Awami League party led by Hasina will contest the upcoming elections. According to him, the election should be completed within the next three months.
“I am confident that the Awami League will come to power. Even if it does not come, we will be the opposition,” he said.
Wazed also said that he was happy with the statement made by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief Khaleda Zia that he would not take any kind of revenge.
Hasina left the country on Monday after the violent demonstrations in Bangladesh. She is currently taking shelter in New Delhi, India. During the demonstration, more than 300 people died.
An interim government has been formed in Bangladesh after the fall of Hasina Satta.
