Trump unveils gold card visa, says it’s the Trump card

Kathmandu — US President Donald Trump unveiled his $5 million gold card visa on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “You know what this card is? It’s a gold card, it’s a Trump card. It can be yours for five million dollars.”

Trump’s proposed gold card program will allow permanent resident visas for people who invest five million dollars in the US. The announcement came shortly after Trump unveiled plans to impose a minimum 10 percent basic import tax on all foreign goods imported.

When asked who would be the first buyer of this gold card, Trump said he was the first buyer. He also said he didn’t know who the second buyer would be. Trump also said the card would be available within two weeks.

At the end of last month, US Commerce Secretary Howard Latnick said that 1000 gold cards were sold in that week and 45 billion was collected in one day. According to Latnik, there are already 250,000 applicants for the Gold Card visa program.
Trump’s proposed Gold Card program would grant permanent residency to people who invest $5 million in a U.S. business. It would replace the current EV-5 visa, according to reports.
The program is part of a broader overhaul of the immigration system. It appears to focus on the president’s investment-based immigration policy. Supporters of the program claim it will bring huge amounts of capital to the United States.
However, its critics have demanded that priority should be given to those with skilled talent rather than those with money. Trump, who calls the Gold Card a green card policy, has said it will offer more benefits than regular permanent residency.
The announcement comes at a time when global markets are reeling from the effects of the President’s new tariffs. A reporter asked Trump for his response when the US market was falling after the tariff announcement on Wednesday.
