The countdown to the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 officially began on Monday as Zimbabwe unveiled the tournament trophy at a ceremony in Harare. The event will be co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia and will be held from January 15 to February 6, featuring 16 teams, including debutants Tanzania.
Former Zimbabwe captain Tatenda Taibu was announced as the tournament ambassador. Taibu, a former Under-19 World Cup player, went on to make 195 international appearances across formats and is expected to inspire young cricketers through his journey from age-group cricket to becoming one of the country’s leading players.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, acting Permanent Secretary Cynthia Mawema described the tournament as a landmark moment for African cricket, calling it a global celebration of youthful talent.
