Kathmandu : Voter education programme is kicking off across the country today in view of the House of Representatives (HoR) member elections.

In line with the Election Education and Voter Education Directive, 2078 BS for HoR member elections, the approved voter education special programme is coming into effect from today onward.

The voter awareness drive is set to proceed as per the approved programme.
The EC has stated that a voter education programme is to proceed aiming at informing the general public about the importance of franchise rights and the voting process.
The programme will be conducted in 6,743 wards of 753 local level governments across the country until March 1. For this purpose, one voter education volunteer will be mobilized in each ward.

According to the EC, the volunteers deployed will visit the communities and households of the voters to inform them about the significance of elections and the voting process through sample ballot paper.

Effective voter education is deemed to play an important role in enhancing voter participation in elections and reducing chances of invalid votes.

In this connection, the EC has requested the governments of all seven provinces, all local governments, political parties contesting in the elections, candidates, the media and all other concerned stakeholders for assistance, coordination, and facilitation in this task, EC spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai informed.
