45 dead in South Africa bus accident. The Associated Press reports that the bus traveling from Botswana’s capital Gabarona to Moria in South Africa’s Limpopo province fell from the Mammatlakala bridge, 300 kilometers above Johannesburg.
The bus burst into flames after falling 50 meters after hitting a bridge railing. The bus was completely destroyed by fire.
As a result of the accident, 45 people on the bus died on the spot. They were going to Moriah to celebrate the Passover.
Only the 8-year-old girl who was on the bus was found alive. According to the provincial government, his health is very serious and he is undergoing treatment.
The rescue operation on the bus that crashed on Thursday afternoon continued until late at night. Limpopo Minister of Transport Sindsiwe Chikunga also reached the scene.
Some passengers may still be trapped on the bus, the BBC reported, citing rescue officials.
After reaching the bridge, the bus fell from the bridge after the driver lost control, said the investigating authorities.
