Kathmandu : The government of the People’s Republic of China has contributed 2 million US dollars in emergency flood relief assistance to the government of Nepal for the post-disaster management in the Bhotekoshi flood-affected areas.

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming met Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle today and handed over the relief assistance provided by China to Nepal, the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu said. He also handed over 200,000 US dollars contributed by the Chinese Red Cross Society to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

In addition to the financial aid, China has been continuously providing assistance to the disaster-affected areas. This includes the first consignment of relief supplies that was airlifted to Kathmandu along with an expert tunnel rescue team. The Chinese side has also been providing Nepal with photos of the disaster-affected areas, hydrological and meteorological information, among other support.

On the occasion, Finance Minister Dr Wagle extended gratitude for China’s assistance at this difficult hour, highly praising the profound friendship between the two countries. He said that Nepal will make full use of the assistance received, leave no stone unturned to rescue people stranded in disaster-affected areas, and look forward to close bilateral cooperation in post-disaster planning and reconstruction.
