Secretary of the Election Commission, Krishna Bahadur Raut, has said the Commission is fully prepared to conduct the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives in a free, fair, and credible environment.
Addressing a special briefing organized for the diplomatic community, Secretary Raut stated that all major administrative and logistical preparations for the elections have reached their final stage.
According to the Commission, a total of 17.9 million voters will take part in the elections. Of them, 49 percent are women and 51 percent are men.
To facilitate voting nationwide, 10,967 polling locations and 23,112 polling stations have been designated.
In addition, 143 temporary polling centers have been arranged for temporary voters to cast ballots under the proportional representation system.
To ensure security and smooth management of the polls, 215,000 personnel have been mobilized across the country, Raut said.
Monitoring committees have been activated at the district level, led by Chief Election Officers, to enforce the election code of conduct.
To enhance voter education and reduce the number of invalid ballots, 6,743 ward-level volunteers have been deployed for a period of 15 days.
To promote transparency and financial discipline in election spending, political parties and candidates have been mandated to open separate election campaign bank accounts.
Responding to queries from diplomatic representatives, Secretary Raut said vote counting will begin immediately after polling concludes.
Barring remote and hard-to-reach areas, results are expected within one to three days.
He further informed that foreign journalists will be provided accreditation through the Department of Information and Broadcasting, while special security and coordination arrangements have been made for election observers.
Stressing that elections are the cornerstone of democracy, Secretary Raut expressed gratitude for the support and goodwill extended by neighboring and friendly nations toward Nepal’s democratic process.
