epali Congress leader and former Mayor of Kapilvastu Municipality, Kiran Singh, has been found dead in the Gorusinge forest.
According to Inspector Dipak Kunwar of the District Police Office, Kapilvastu, the body of Singh, who had been missing since Friday in the Tilaurakot Community Forest, was discovered a short while ago.
“His body was found in the middle of the forest about half an hour ago,” Kunwar told Nepalkhabar. “Our team is currently heading to the incident site.”
Sixty-five-year-old Singh had won the election for Mayor of Kapilvastu Municipality in the 2074 BS local level elections representing Nepali Congress.
Surendra Acharya, the District President of Nepali Congress Kapilvastu, stated that the cause of death for Singh, who was also a member of the Congress District Working Committee, remains unknown.
Singh had left his home in Kapilvastu-3 at around 2:00 pm on Friday. At around 3:30 pm, he had called some close acquaintances to inform them that he had lost his way in the forest.
A search team consisting of his relatives and others tracked him down to a forest area about eight kilometers north of the East-West Highway. They found his motorcycle—bearing the license plate Lu Pra 01-013 Pa 7970—parked, but he was nowhere in sight.
Police later reported that his body was discovered in the same area today
