The Embassy of Nepal in the United States has urged Nepali nationals residing in the US to strictly comply with American laws and regulations, warning that failure to do so could lead to the cancellation of visas and even green cards.
Issuing a public notice, the embassy appealed to Nepalis living in the US for study, travel, employment, business, or family visits not to engage in illegal activities or submit false information to unlawfully access benefits meant for US citizens.
The embassy said it has received information from US authorities that any foreign national found to be illegally or fraudulently dependent on benefits such as subsidized healthcare, housing, family assistance, or educational aid could face direct consequences on their visa or green card status, including cancellation.
The notice also referred to the stricter visa policy promoted by US President Donald Trump and urged Nepalis to remain cautious and compliant with evolving regulations.
The embassy recalled that in 2024, Nepali nationals were found to be among the top recipients of US government-subsidized services, following which the US had issued a public notice temporarily suspending immigrant visas for Nepalis.
It further warned against the misuse of B1 (business) and B2 (tourist) visas. According to the embassy, cases of overstaying and engaging in unauthorized employment on B1/B2 visas have prompted the US government to introduce a visa bond requirement ranging from USD 5,000 to USD 15,000, effective from January 21, 2026.
The embassy cautioned that such practices could further negatively affect US visa policies toward Nepal, making it more difficult for future applicants and potentially harming the country’s international image.
The embassy has urged all Nepali citizens in the US to refrain from illegal activities, avoid providing false information, not depend on benefits meant for US citizens, and strictly adhere to the conditions of their respective visas.
