Former King Gyanendra Shah has paid tribute to the known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the establishment of democracy in Nepal.
In a video message released on the occasion of Democracy Day, he said that poverty and instability remain the country’s greatest enemies.
Reflecting on the political movements and struggles of the past, the former king urged the nation to conduct an honest self-assessment of what those changes have truly delivered to the country and its people.
“There has been a growing tendency to demand rights without giving due thought to duties. The time has come for everyone to think seriously and responsibly,” he said.
He also stressed the need to end the culture of one Nepali viewing another as an enemy, calling for unity and mutual understanding among citizens.
