 A meeting of the Nepal–India Border District Coordination Committee was held in Biratnagar today, deciding to strengthen security arrangements during the upcoming House of Representatives election.

According to a press release issued by the District Administration Office, Morang, the meeting was attended by senior officials from Morang, Jhapa and Sunsari districts of Nepal, and Kishangunj, Araria and Supaul districts of India. Discussions focused on enhancing security measures for the forthcoming election.

The meeting agreed to completely close border points 72 hours prior to the voting day.

The meeting was co-chaired by Chief District Officer of Morang Yubaraj Kattel and District Magistrate of Araria Vinod Duhan.

The meeting decided to strengthen joint border patrols and tighten security mechanisms to address potential security challenges during the election period.

The press statement also noted that both sides agreed to continue coordination to curb illegal activities along the border, including unauthorized entry of third-country nationals, drug trafficking, human trafficking, circulation of counterfeit currency, and smuggling of arms and cash.
