Kathmandu : The candidacy of Resham Chaudhary, a candidate of the Nagarik Unmukti Party Nepal, has been rejected. He had filed his nomination from Kailali Constituency No. 1.

The Office of the Election Officer said the nomination was cancelled as it did not meet the requirements of prevailing law. Although Chaudhary received a presidential pardon on the government’s recommendation in the Tikapur incident case, the House of Representatives Election Act bars individuals sentenced to life imprisonment from contesting elections.

Chaudhary had also sought to contest the 2079 BS election from Bardiya Constituency No. 2, where his candidacy was similarly rejected while he was in prison. Following that, his father Lalbir Chaudhary ran as an independent candidate from the same constituency.
