Thailand’s ex-prime minister, convicted of corruption, released on parole

Kathmandu. Thailand’s former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been released on parole. After his release, he went to his home in Bangkok.
Shinawatra was sentenced to one year in prison for corruption and abuse of power. Meanwhile, he was admitted to the prison hospital, from where he was released. But due to health problems, he did not have to spend even a day in jail.
The 74-year-old billionaire Shinawatra was detained in August last year after returning to Thailand after 15 years in exile. Days after his return from self-exile, the King of Thailand reduced his eight-year prison sentence to one year.
However, this concession given to him was highly criticized. The people of Thailand have said that the rich and privileged people of the country have been exempted.
