Chairman of Muktinath Cable Car Pvt. Ltd. Arun Kumar Subedi said that after the construction of this cable car, the tourism business of this region will increase.
He claims that even if tourists go to Muktinath and climb from Serabensi on the border of Kaski, Kushma, Baglung and Myagdi areas can also benefit. ‘Tourists going to Muktinath do not come only from Pokhara, Kaligandaki Corridor, Madhyapahari Lokmarg is crossing, there is a possibility of tourists coming from Bhairahawa at Balewa Airport’, he said, ‘Where do those tourists stay in Kushma, Baglung and Beni?’
Subedi says that the cable car has the capacity to carry at least 10,000 people per day and the company that makes the trip to Muktinath will make arrangements to deliver packages to Gupteshwar and Alpeshwar Caves in Parbat, Kalika Temple in Baglung, Panchkot, Galeshwar Temple in Myagdi and this region can benefit greatly.
Chairman Subedi said that although the source of investment has been secured, the construction work has been pushed back due to the delay in the government process. He said that even though 20 percent indigenous and 80 percent Indian K&R Engineering Limited will make the cable car construction as well as investment, Nepal’s legal process is working to complete the process.
According to Subedi, the world’s longest Muktinath cable car is going to be built on the engineering procurement contract and investment (EPCF) model. “We have already made a preliminary agreement to build a cable car under the Engineering Procurement Contract and Investment (EPCF) model”, he said, “The investment of the cost estimate has been ensured.”
He said that the cable car to be built using the EPCF model is the first big project in Nepal and said that the cost of making the 80 km long cable car is estimated at Rs 55 billion. According to the agreement, K&R Engineering India will invest 80 percent of the total cost, i.e. Rs. 44 billion.
The environmental assessment of the project is yet to be passed and the project development agreement with the government is yet to be signed. According to the religious belief that among the ‘Char Dham;s one must visit Muktinath for worship, the number of religious tourists going to Muktinath will increase.
