Washington.–US President Donald Trump has termed the Associated Press (AP) as a ‘radical left-wing organization’.
The US media AP did not mention the issue of renaming the world-known water area by the name of the Gulf of Mexico as Trump said. After that, President Trump made the accusation against AP.
In the first month of his tenure, Trump called the region the “Gulf of America”. He had banned AP journalists from entering the White House until his order was followed. The White House barred AP reporters from Air Force One and the Oval Office.
Addressing the Republican Governors Association in the capital Washington, Trump said, “We have a battle with a news organization, which is a radical left-wing organization. He has rejected and does reject our proposal to call the area known as the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. It treats us all badly.”
Without specifying what his claim was about possible legal action, Trump continued, “We’re kicking them out of any press conference right now.” I believe they will file a lawsuit and maybe they will win. It does not matter. It is just something we feel strongly about.”
Long a pillar of American journalism, this 180-year-old medium provides news for print, TV and radio publications and broadcasts there and around the world.
Last month, AP noted in a “style note” that “the Gulf of Mexico has carried this name for over 400 years.” In response to this, President Trump’s executive order stated that “only within the United States does this right exist.”
