The Election Commission Nepal has classified 3,680 polling stations across the country as “highly sensitive” ahead of the upcoming House of Representatives election.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Commission Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut said that 4,442 polling stations have been categorized as sensitive, while 2,845 are considered normal.

According to the Commission, the classification has been made solely for security deployment purposes under an integrated security plan led by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

“This categorization has been carried out to facilitate effective security mobilization. It is based on past security assessments and analysis. We request that it not be interpreted otherwise,” Raut said.

He added that a three-layer security arrangement will be enforced at polling centers. The Nepali Army, the middle layer by the Armed Police Force Nepal, and the inner security ring by the Nepal Police will manage the outer security perimeter.

Authorities have stated that all preparations are in place to ensure a free, fair, and secure voting environment nationwide.
