Kathmandu : The Nepali Congress has expelled General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, along with Joint General Secretary Farmullah Mansur, from the party for a period of five years.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s Central Committee held in Sanepa on Wednesday. The meeting also urged other leaders who had supported the call for a special general convention to return to their previous party responsibilities.
Thapa and Sharma had called for a special general convention, arguing that the party leadership had ignored the demand raised by 54 percent of general convention representatives. However, despite their objections, the Central Committee had earlier agreed to hold the party’s regular general convention in Baisakh (April–May) if it could not be conducted in Poush (December–January).
Following that decision, Thapa and Sharma moved ahead with the call for a special general convention and advanced the electoral process by forming an election committee, maintaining that decisions taken by the closed session would be final.
