When Night Falls, A Poem by Ranjit K Sahu

When Night Falls

A Poem Composed by Ranjit K Sahu

Winter mutes the last voice of the wild
Hushing the few creatures into silence
Evening fades in the eyes of the child
Nudging it into a slumber intense

Not fast are the hands of the clock on wall
In no rush are flames in fireplace to die
Gone are the sleepy cats’ twitches and brawl
Hailing in happiness quiet they lie

Time glides along the path of the night
Flowing slowly with the soft melting snow
Above the stars the moon shines cold and bright
Lighting the country side with her soft glow
Lining the creek side snowdrops fall asleep
Summing up the night’s song soft smooth and deep
